CoNECTAR Program

Undergraduate and Graduate Students Community

CoNECTAR seeks to provide students, both undergraduate and graduate, a safe and casual space to ask questions and find guidance about graduate school and beyond, while providing a community in which students can connect.

 We are a group of graduate students, postdocs and doctorates in academia and in industry that are here to help you navigate graduate life.


We provide a platform for two type of interactions: Mentor to Mentee and Mentee to Mentee

Mentor to Mentee: designed for upper level undergraduates and graduate students of any year. We offer guidance in a variety of topics, some examples are:

  • Is graduate school the right fit for me? 
  • How do I successfully apply to graduate school : Statements, interviewing, TOEFL, GRE?
  • Should I pursue a master’s or a Ph.D. degree?
  • How do I go about funding for graduate school, or research? 
  • Wha do I need to know about transitioning to a new academic system?
  • After graduate school, is academia/industry the right path for me?

Mentee to Mentee: designed for graduate students of any year. Some examples of the topics we offer guidance are:

  • Graduate school life: a roller coaster experience 
  • Imposter syndrome
  • I feel I am not good enough
  • Barriers to communicating with your PI
  • Dealing with comprehensive exams
  • Dealing with dissertation writing
  • Dealing with dissertation research and motherhood
  • Dealing with financial stress
  • Balancing school and work
